Fun book to read, cool learning some of the history of a great champion and a good man. Lone Star JR is racing royalty.
Good discription of his life and times. Equally as good as most autobiographies of his counterparts.
wonderful ,inspiring book about a true racing legend .
The book is written with a lot of extra detail as if there would be quite a few people with no knowledge of racing reading it so it becomes a bit tedious on detail at times. There is also quite a bit of extra life detail which I didn't find completely necessary either. Overall, it is a fascinating read and an intimate look at a true motor sports icon.
Okay, so anyone that knows me knows that that I am a Rutherford fan to start with. My father worked for Gulf Oil at the time the orange disk was emblazoned on the McLaren cars and I got interested in racing ... about 1972; so I really enjoyed this book. If you were around racing as a fan in the late 60's, 70's and into the 80's, you'll enjoy this too as it speaks to what racing was like in an era that a lot of open wheel fans wish could somehow be recaptured (bring back the snake pit).
This is a Christmas Gift to my husband, who has wanted this book for years.
Unlike so many books that cover the subject of automobile racing, the author presents his personal experiences while plying his craft as a raving driver. So many books of this type descend into a diatribe of racing results race after race after race. These books are good reference resources only. This book has the heart and soul of the man in the machine, his life, his mistakes and struggles, and his elation over finally seeing his hard work break through the very lean years to personal reward. That is what we want in a book, but seldom find.
