Loved this guide--very complete and fairly easy to navigate given the large volume of information. So many recommendations and explanations, very few if any steered us wrong. I used the guide book to explore and then made recommendations to coworkers based on what LP had suggested, and I looked like a travel genius. It still required some additional research on times, shows, and tickets, but sent us in the right direction every time. Only complaints were 1) it would be nice to have a space to rough out an itinerary in the book, even just a blank cover in the book. 2) Could have used some warning about cash availability and ATM fees in BA--there are limits for foreigners and high fees that if we had known in advance, would have changed our plan to pull cash out on site, and 3) more details on cell phone activation. For foreigners, most services require you to show up in person with a passport to verify your identity, since you don't have a Argentine SSN equivalent. It took an extra few days to figure this out and find a place to submit our passport to.

I am very, very with this book. There is great detail and I really enjoyed the author's style. In fact, I think this is one of the better travel guides I have purchased in some time. We leave next week for BA and I feel much better about the trip because of this book. We ordered other guides and this one was the best by far.

Although it was for my fifth or sixth trip to Buenos Aires (over 40 years), there is still so much to learn about the city. I found this to be a useful refresher as my wife and I had not been here for about 7 or 8 years and we were traveling with two other couples who had never been there and needed two look smart and well informed!

The only travel guide I ever need!Where ever we travel we always take a lonely planet travel guide... complete information and lots of tips ... equals great trip.

The book has 297 pages of which the first 80 pages are a general intro inc. electric vehicle history, 81 to 259 is an overview of the technical aspects in general that you will need to understand. Page 260, chapter 11 is entitled 'Electric vehicle conversion' ... Personally I would have put this first because this is an overview/introduction of what we really want to know and after reading this I understand the value of pages 81 to 259.I don't think you will be able to carry out a conversion after reading this book ... but it can get you started. The book was published first in 1994 so when it states "TODAY'S BEST CONTROLLER SOLUTION" ... well ..... things have moved on.And although it is not yet plug and play to convert to EV you actually won't need the all the mathematics and physics of this book.Cost me $2 used and in good condition ... worth buying it? YES.

The first edition has saved me much heartache in my building a converted vehicle. I used the basic schematic for laying out the system (with slight modification, being I don't use a DC/DC charger for my 12VDC low volt system). As for the technical aspects, we as a 'modern tech society' I think too often that we must 'have it all handed to us' and sometimes an author realizes that people working with such tech, will have to research other sources for more in depth study. I would hope ANYONE going into even thinking of converting an ICE to an EV, would plan on learning a lot of math, formulae, some battery chemistry, have a basic understanding of physical principles and be ready to study a whole lotta 'lectronics! But the end result is in my mind that you continue to learn and study... We are at a critical juncture in society, the world condition and this field of EV conversion/building technology. Thomas Freidman made the comment recently,"We need all kinds of people in their garages working on this (EV, green-hybrid) technology!" (my paraphrase). And Bob Brandt's book, is the book that set me forward. There are many other books appearing and that are selling for a couple hundred dollars! And that want you to buy this or that or subscribe to this ideology or 'set of facts'... THIS BOOK, is 'well this is what ya do here...', plain and simple it lays out an outline of what you need to do and consider. Buy THIS BOOK! And you won't be sorry, of course it will be the first of many....

This book is pretty good. It covers the basics of EV building. My main issue with it is that it has become woefully out of date. In the years since it was published, controllers, batteries and motors have all changed for the better. The EVs you could build with this book are too old-school.I am all for the home builder doing their thing, its just that this book needs some updates and links to where you can find the best new controllers, motors, batteries out on the web. If you were wondering what it would take to convert that old 4 banger car into an EV vehicle this book will get you started in the right direction basically.From there you can probably find what you are looking for out on the web. So its a decent source, just realize its a bit dated.Thanks for reading my review.

I picked up this book because I was curious. I am a car guy who loves working on his cars, and loves motor sports, especially dirt track racing. I am probably not the target audience for this book.Still, my thinking on ecology has been seriously challenged by my Church (I am Catholic, and Vatican City State is the world's first carbon neutral country, and the Pope has been adamant about our duty to be good stewards of the planet). This has challenged my thinking. Also, the national security implications of our addiction to foreign oil has also challenged my thinking. I have decided it is time to begin the process of weaning myself and my family off of fossil fuels. After composting and planting a garden, making the house more energy efficient, and adopting a generally more green lifestyle, this is the next step.I dug into this book, and loved much of it. However, it is in desperate need of a competent editor, and may be a little difficult to wade through as a result, but the content is excellent and is there for you if you are willing to dig a bit.Let me address the strengths of this excellent book first:1) The section on the history of the electric car, its technology, and its strengths and weaknesses is comprehensive and very convincing. I was somewhat skeptical at first but after reading this book I am convinced that a) electric cars are the wave of the future, b) my concerns about them were largely misplaced, c) it is probably my patriotic duty to drive one, both because I love the US and support Israel, and d) the environment, and our pocketbooks, NEED us to move away from the internal combustion engine.2) The mathematical sections, while difficult to wade through and in desperate need of a good educator/editor to make the material more understandable, are actually quite strong if you really stick to them. However, there is so much help out there on line now that you really don't need to do any of these mathematical formulations. Kits for conversion are now commercially available and there are experts out there willing to answer questions for free. This book needed an editor to keep reminding the authors to "keep it simple, stupid."3) This topic is just fascinating, and it would be difficult for any remotely competent author to mess it up.4) Despite what you may think about complexity, EV's are actually REALLY simple and elegant, and you are not being made obsolete and you are NOT being forced to hang up your ratchets. This is a big deal for some guys. After all, as is so eloquently pointed out in Shop Class as Soulcraft: An Inquiry Into the Value of Work car manufacturers and others are busy designing products that "hide the works" in an almost blatant attempt to keep people ignorant and divorced from their machines. This is as unnecessary as it is stupid. The electric car predates the internal combustion car, and is what Mrs. Henry Ford drove (I am not kidding). You can relatively easily build one yourself on a used chassis (any used car... preferably light). You can do this with little or no mechanical experience. When you see how easy it is by going on line and looking at the work others have done, and start experimenting yourself, you will get VERY angry at car companies for not getting this right sooner. It really is impossible to understand how it has taken so long for car companies to wake up to the fact that we NEED EVs.Weaknesses:1) The future of the EV, as other reviewers have pointed out, is NOT likely to be DC (unless perhaps one is drag racing). If you want mileage, and the ability to get up hills well, I think AC motors are superior (and yes... more expensive). The data are clear however, and GM has put its (umm... our?) money in the AC camp with the new Volt, and there is a reason for that. There is not enough information here on AC.2) Really... how expensive is it to hire an editor? I mean, mistaking "then" with "than" over and over again in the mathematics section made me distrust the fact that these guys had their math right. Learn to use the English language correctly, and if you are not strong in this area, HIRE AN EDITOR. This isn't some self produced book either. Its McGraw Hill! Exactly who was responsible to sit these boys down and say: "this section is entirely unnecessary... these words and misspelled.... this book would be more user friendly if..." The editing is abominable, and is a real drawback. The standards of editing are similar with what you see on online reviews like this one. This is not a good thing. Someone who edited for the "For Dummies" series could have turned this into a world class book. Instead, it is a 3 star book. That is a shame.3) The strength of the EV is that it is simple, has fewer moving parts, is therefore very reliable, and is very good for the planet. I enjoy turning the ratchets... I do not enjoy doing oil changes. I won't miss them when they are gone. The strength of the EV is it is easy to understand, and that you can work on it yourself very easily, even build one from scratch with little mechanical experience. Simplicity is a strength. The book is too complex, introduces unnecessary concepts (like mathematical formulas.. which while fun will slow you down), and is therefore unlikely to appeal to guys who can do this conversion with their eyes closed. I am referring here to the countless shade tree/home garage techs who do their own brakes, do their own oil, watch NASCAR, love cars because they are CARS, and enjoy turning ratchets. This is who I am, but I needed the college degree I sometimes think I wasted my money on to get through some of this book. There was no reason for that.Still, I strongly recommend this book. It educated me on how EVs work, and I am planning my own conversion. After reading this book, and doing some additional research, I understand how the new hybrids work, how the new VOLT will work, and I understand that I can still work on my cars and enjoy them even if they are electric. This is VERY important, and something I hope the car companies get right. It would be very easy for them to get this wrong... introduce a "solid state" car or something ludicrous. I hope to heck they don't do this. If they do, I will be only driving my own aftermarket conversions from now on.

This is a book that my students asked for! We just finished reading the City of Ember as a class pleasure read, and the kids asked if we could buy the second book in the series. It is a small group reading class with middle school students being served in special education. Of course if they ask for a book I'm going to buy it for them! There are five students in the class, which means that I can buy One Kindle version of this novel and download it onto all five of their class kindle fires for everyone to read. I love seeing kids excited about books! I highly recommend the City of Ember series for upper elementary and middle school age kids. They love this dystopian novel series, and it makes for interesting class discussions and activities.

This is a post apolyptic story as told through the eyes of a 12 year old. I read this 6-7 years ago with my daughter. It's still on my Kindle so I decided to read the series again. Wow, it really is relevant to what's going on in the world today! The People of Ember are now refugees seeking a new home. Our world is full of refugees now trying to find countries that will take them in. They are strange to us. We are afraid of them. We worry about the welfare of our own people. Sometimes there doesn't seem to be a right or wrong answer to the questions of this world crisis;. A crisis that has seems to hit every generation within my lifetime. This series may help children, or anyone, to understand both sides of the situation. Read together​ it could open up a great dialogue between a parent and child about our current world problems on a level that they can understand.

When the people of Ember thought all was lost, a couple of young kids were able to find their way out of the underground, dying city. Now, in The People of the Sparks by Jeanne DuPrau, the people of Ember must find a way to survive in a whole new world.Lina and Doon knew they couldn't stay in Ember any longer, but they didn't anticipate how life would be aboveground. It was beautiful, full of light and color like nothing the over 400 Ember refugees had ever seen. After three days, they stumbled upon a town called Sparks where life was hard, but people were living. In a world where multiple plagues and world wars had ravaged the land and left only a few survivors, the people of Sparks were survivors. But with only 300 or so residents of the small settlement, the addition of the 400+ ember refugees makes life tough on everyone. Barely able to feed themselves in rough winters, they have no idea what they are going to do now that they have more than doubled their population.At first people are kind and supportive and even a little amused by the Emberites naivete. They forget the people from the underground city wouldn't know about seasons, mountains, birds, or flowers, but they enjoy teaching them new things. Soon, however, the wear and tear of taking care of people who don't know how to take care of themselves makes charity difficult, and the people of Sparks begin to resent their new arrivals. Doon and Lina know something must be done, but they have very different ideas of how to do it. How do you stop a war between two groups of people who are both right?There is something magical about this series that when I read it, I feel like I am reading a fairy tale. I don't know how to explain it, and it isn't just the "youth" of the story, but it really does feel like reading a fairy tale full or moral and ethical lessons we all need to learn. It seems like a dark and heavy story for a middle reader, but it surprisingly isn't. It is told in a way that middle readers can relate to and never be overwhelmed by, which is the genius behind this series.This is a great second installment to the series, as it takes the people of Ember in a whole new direction. But more importantly are the central themes of outsiders, being different, tolerance, and helping people even when it makes things difficult for you. This is a beautiful series to read in your class with your students or at home together with your child as it has so much to offer as they grow and learn about the world. It should be a staple in every library as well. I am impressed by DuPrau, and can't wait to see where the story takes us!

I tutor at the local elementary school and my 5th grader and I have our own exclusive 2-person Book Club. He suggested we read "The City of Ember" so we did and now we've moved onto "The People of Sparks." It is interesting writing and so much for us to contemplate and talk about and think about. We discuss, in comparison, the current state of affairs in our own country and contrast what happened in those two books with the very many crises that are occurring in countries now such as North Korea, the Middle East, the Ukraine. Also, past atrocities such as the Hitler's philosophy about mankind and what happened only 20 years ago in Rwanda. So much of relevance to discuss in perspective of this series of books.

This is the second offering in the books of EMBER. In this one we find the people of Ember finally emerging from their dying and beloved underground city. They have followed the instructions left by Lina and Doon. Now they join the people of the town of Sparks. Friction between the two groups starts right from the begining. Not enough food, the people of Ember have no idea of surviving in this new and strange world, where the sky is blue and there is no end in the horizon. Lina now learns about the DISASTER when travelling to a deserted and destroyed city.As I mentioned, this is in fact a good and great read. Nevertheless if compared to the first book "City of Ember" it lacks. The People of Sparks it's written almost like a lecture. There are no plots, no surprises. The book is a good read because the Author manages to keep the story interesting. I'm really looking forward for the next book of Ember. I hope the magic and the thrill are back.Cheers.

It is a fantastic book filled not only with Illustrations about the game but it also has lots of notes and sketches on the thought process behind them.BUT after a few months the glue on the "spine" of the book starts failing and soon the pages will come of, this has not happened with the other two art books i received with this on wich leads me to believe this is a specific problem to this book.

Okami is a very special treasure. It is easily one of the best video games of the 2000's, one of my all-time favorites, and is most definitely one of the most beautiful, uniquely artistic games of all time. Okami's graphics are immediately striking in their vibrant style and focus. If you're like me, and you love the art design behind Okami, then this is an essential purchase to make.First off, in keeping with the overall eastern focus of Okami, this book was kept in its Japanese format, so you'll be reading it right-to-left, "back"-to-"front." It's pretty enjoyable and easy to get used to. Thankfully, the book is wonderfully organized too. First is a section of water-color paintings of the final version of each character as you encounter them chronologically in-game, as well as information about them. After this, you get essentially the same thing, but about the enemies and bosses. Then is a conceptual section organized in the same order as the previous section, but instead of finalized versions, there are many conceptual sketches and really insightful commentary from the artists, detailing the process of making each character from start to finish. I found the commentary in this sections really fun to read; they are very informative and have a lot of character. Then comes conceptual paintings of enemies, with commentary on these. Next is concept art for the settings, again with fascinating insight from the artists. Finally, we get some paintings from "Issun the celestial envoy," which basically boil down to breathtaking paintings of key moments from the game and its story, done as if they were paintings from historical periods of Japanese art. These are the main sections of the book, but there are little bits here and there that are added in at various points in the book, such as unique pictures from events showcasing the game. It's all quite expansive.The book is huge, over 288 pages devoted to paintings, sketches, concept art, even music sheets, pretty much anything and everything artistic you can imagine pertaining to the game. Okami's gorgeous Eastern-influenced art style is designed to look like Japanese water color paintings, as well as the famous (and gorgeous) block print paintings of the Ukiyo-e style. This book is so beautiful, poignant, and just so delightful to behold in every aspect. I'd swear some paintings were done by Hiroshige himself! The writer commentary is awesome too, offering great insight and the kind of lovely humor that helps define the game itself. Some of the paintings really seem to fit in with the ancient, established styles that inspired them, and are just as beautiful too. I really cannot emphasize how lovely the art in this book is, it's fantastic.In pretty much every aspect, I'd say getting this book is a no-brainer. Even if you don't know about the game Okami, this book is worth getting for the merit of its art alone. It's exceptionally well organized, the commentary and information within is very engaging, and the art itself is absolutely spectacular. Buy it, take in the vibrant majesty of this art, and get lost in a truly beautiful world.

When I was younger, I played a lot of video games. However, the one that stood out the most for me was Okami, not only for its uniquely created world and illustrations, but also the unique gameplay, especially the use of a paintbrush as a weapon vs a gun or sword. I don't play video games much anymore, but really wanted this art book as I love the art and design of Okami. I was very pleasantly surprised when I got it. The illustrations and descriptions are full, and those who have not played the game will love the book even if for its unique illustrations. I highly recommend it to any art book lover.

This has everything from early concept sketches when they weren't even sure what the player character would be, through to annotated character designs like from a Disney feature! There's also maps, the Bestiary Scroll, all the Brush gods, and so much more. The cover has metallic-gold for Ammy, and it's laid out for "back-to-front" reading according to Japanese writing's convention, even though this translation is in English, just for fun. I love this game so much I couldn't resist buying my own physical copy of the artbook, no matter how many crappy scans of it are already available on The Internet.

I bought this because I loved Okami. I loved the soundtrack, I love Ukiyo-e style art, and I loved the designs of this game. Plus it's always fun to see concept art and read notes and stuff from the visual team. There's plenty of awesome concept art in this book, and lots of official polished final art as well. Great variety, fun insight, definitely recommend!

Today, we can be miserable with 40 hour weeks, two days off and 2-5 weeks’ vacation. Soon, we must face the reality of 15 hour weeks, because artificial intelligence will pick up where automated looms, assembly lines and robots have left off. We can massage it into a Utopia, or let it destroy our fabric. Our choice, but we need to start acting now.Borders prevent development and trade. Mexicans used to return from the USA at the rate of 85%. Now they have to stay put. Finding new markets or even just work is enlarged with a larger territory. IMHO the largest problem we face in the Americas is income equality. Let Fox News scream "class war", the rich have been waging war against the middle class since Reagan. This book touches on this but mostly talks about universal basic income (I'm on board!), a shorter work week (although 15 hrs/wk seems too low) and open borders (I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around it). Other ideas include taxing capital instead of labor and a transaction tax on Wall Street. But let's face it, change cannot come until we remove the money from politics, taking power away from the insanely wealthy, corporations and special interest groups.

This was a great overview of how the idea of a basic income is both more possible and indeed has been more successful in the past than most people realize. Unfortunately, the biggest obstacle - changing people's perception - is only touched on. In some ways this feels like a really good professor telling you "And finally, as an exercise for the class...go change their minds."

I had read Rosalind Wiseman's other book, Queen Bees and Wannabees, which was ABSOLUTELY SUPERB; and I had a current student (boy) who was being physically bullied at school, and was looking for some new ideas on how to help him.Masterminds and Wingmen was equally good as her first book, and I did find a very small (but adequate) amount in this book (about two or three pages) which dealt with strategies to use when someone is being physically bullied. They were helpful in that I had not thought of them before. It covered IF you need to fight, the issues you really need to be aware of first. It also gave some suggestions toward solving the problem without fighting that I had not thought of before (and I speak as both a parent and a teacher of 30 years' experience). If you are looking for a book specifically on how to deal with boys' problems of physical bullying, I would have liked a LOT more on this subject, but so far, I haven't found any better book. At least what this book touched on was useful.Aside from the question of physical bullying, this book was FANTASTIC. I am a parent, but not of boys. I would recommend this book to any parent, and to EVERY TEACHER. I learned so many things that I had never even thought about.The most surprising chapters for me dealt with every aspect of video games. As a person with zero interest in video games, I learned all about why they are so important to elementary-school and middle-school boys. Several chapters cover every aspect of how boys relate to each other through video games, and how if one understands the characters and ideas in video games, how one can much better understand boys' thinking and mentality (and even married men's thinking and mentality). I now think I will try out a few video games--not because I'm expecting to love them, but because this experience will help me better relate to my young male pupils as a teacher.This book covers many, many different aspects of boys' culture, thinking, and daily dilemmas. It is the perfect book for girls and women to read in order to understand the culture of boys and men.

My son told me that anything he tried to do to avoid conflict, it wouldn't help) and he's not the only one in his class that is getting bullied, all by the same child. Immediately, I called my son's father, we are divorced, and told him I was calling a meeting with the principle and or vice principal and our son would not be returning to school until a plan for the bully was in place!A very resourceful book!!Written with sensitivity to the issues that young men are facing today and ways that we can help them to become more confident, well rounded, and find their inner strength.I took so many mental notes, plus handwritten reminders for myself, for the upcoming conversations I will soon have with my son. I also wrote the I PROMISE/ HE PROMISES contract out for both my son and I; to discuss and sign.

I cant say enough about this book. If you have a loved one (child, grandchild, nephew) who is a teen/preteen boy, you absolutely MUST read this. If you are a youth pastor or teacher or scout leader of a teen boy, you absolutely MUST read this. I heard about it from a friend, who heard about it through her son's school (in colorado). the school is doing a series of book club/ discussion groups on this book for parents of boys about to enter middle school. I would love to start a similar parent's discussion group at my son's school! If you think preteen and teen "girls are hard" and that "boys are easy" , it is only because we don't know what is going on inside a boy, but their teen years are JUST AS tumultuous as girls. The author points out that she isn't writing this so that you can confront your boy and make him talk about everything in the book; rather, her intent is that you gain an understanding and awareness of your son's world to better support him. Just read it!!! You won't be sorry.

I'm reading this to my son and as we got to the part of self image he started to cry because he could identify with the moobs torment.These comments have left my mini me very hurt and we were able to open a dialog that needed to be.His father died a year ago so I have to play both rolls. I had to tell him he had moobs too "yeah those were from muscles""no he could fill a nice a or b cup, which I didn't mind being on the opposite side. So it comes naturally" I didn't go into deets on lipo and how many men deal with them that way but you get the gist. Reading this with your child, or listening, is ideal.Like "motherless Daughters" was for me I hope to gain insight into being a great wingman.I'm saddened my video would not uploadCTG
