Amazon.com Review

Is Froggy nervous about the first day of school? Well, just a little. First he has a terrible nightmare, dreaming that he almost misses the bus and shows up at school in his underwear. Then when he does wake up, he drops the milk just as he's about to pour some on his bowl of flies! Finally Froggy makes it out the door, leapfrogging the whole way, eager for all the challenges that await him in this comical, brightly illustrated tale of a daunting-but-rewarding first day at school. Terrific for reading aloud, this is another winner in the Froggy series--including Froggy Gets Dressed, Froggy Learns to Swim, and Froggy Plays Soccer. Zip, zoop, zup are the sounds of Froggy getting dressed, and when he has to go somewhere, it's flop, flop, flop all the way. Our 5-year-old assistant reviewer had fun imitating Froggy and friends, shouting out "Frrrooggyy!" and "Wha-a-a-a-t?" at all the appropriate times. Kids will relate to the trials of the good-natured amphibian who makes lots of mistakes--he yells too loud, interrupts, and has trouble paying attention. With the support of his gentle teacher, however, he soon gets the hang of things. Before long, funny Froggy has the class, and the principal, laughing and singing along with him. All in all, he has a successful day--until he comes home to discover he's left his lunch box and cap at school! "Oh, Froggy. Will you ever learn?" said his mother. "That's why I'm going to school, Mom!" Froggy replies, with a big hop and a grin. (Ages 3 to 6) --Marianne Painter

Who doesn't like Froggy, both of my kids like the Froggy books. They tell a story that you can relate a clear moral to and your children can understand. The books are well written and the illustrative art work is great. We have quite a few Froggy books as well as the Berenstain Bears. Both are good family books to read to you kids at the end of the day.

Great book.Easy to read and very colorful. Mu six year old loves it!

I love froggy books. The only thing I don't like is when he answers his mom by saying "What" but no biggie. I just replace it with Yes!. Lol

My kids have been reading Froggy books since they were introduced to the series in pre-school. They would rotate which Froggy book each child would get each week. This one was always one of their favorites. The swimming song is one that they all love to sing along with. Note, it was introduced in the book Froggy Learns To Swim (surprise!), which is also a good book that they enjoyed. We love the whole Froggy series and Froggy Goes To School is a great addition to the series.

My daughter and her husband used this book to help my grandson become excited to attend his first day in kindergarten. Prior to Froggy we had a bit of resistance about the entire "school thing". My grandson finally decided that school might be rather fun and is doing well in his classes. Thanks Froggy! (Now if we could just get Froggy to write a book that will help grandma get excited about going to the gym.)

Great book for beginning of school year for K-1. Cute characters and story line to help students with first day feelings and routines.

A little too mature for my 3 year old who I was trying to prepare for preschool.

Great series of books. My 4 year old loves them.

Review

“A leading British economist, [McWilliams] bases his theories on a mixture of his own research, the research of other economists, and aggregate data from sources such as the United Nations and regional consortia. . . . Clearly written. He specifically discredits some of the influential theories of Thomas Piketty’s bestselling Capital in the Twenty-First Century. Will reward diligent readers.” - Kirkus Reviews“In The Inequality Paradox, McWilliams argues that inequality is largely driven not by a conspiracy of the rich but by technology and globalization, leading to rising inequality even as worldwide poverty drops.” - Publishers Weekly

I am disappointed there have been no reviews yet of this ikmportant book since I feel the author uniquely frames the discussion in a critically important way. The hope is that we will avoid simplistic and "bad science" analysis of the VERY complicated economies of every scale. This is a precarious time in human history, indeed, arguably the most important time any humans have lived in, a time in which we MUST get it right ... that is understand the real reasons for inequality and poverty and get the solutions as right as possible. It is a unique time in human history because of the unprecedented stresses due to the scale and radically changing demographics of global population and the accelerating, dare I say frightening, threats to hard-won improvements in many indices of human activity (e.g., improvement Hans Rosling spent years to bring to our attention). Our policy and decision "plates" are full to overflowing with critically important decisions that will decide the fate, over the next decades and beyond, of humans, our environment, and the health and destiny of non-human life as a support system and in its own right (e.g., human-caused global extinction event unfolding with unprecedented speed). So I think this book provides essential and well-reasoned analysis and a range of options that is refreshing in it's lack of propagandistic content.I unfortunately cannot apply a 5-star rating because, despite the fundamentally helpful reasoning the book was often hard to decipher and I just had to "take the author's word for it", so to speak. That is, though I appreciated the "conclusions" section at the end of each chapter, I felt the conclusions were not as well supported as they could have been. Of course, a LOT of that is due to the fact that it is so hard to find and understand reliable and comparable data for the many factors analyzed. But I felt the analysis was at times rather thin or at least hard to clearly follow.Another criticism is the lack of or very limited concern with the natural world in which humans are embedded (e.g., global warming). If we get, for prime example, climate change prevention and adaptation wrong, that certainly could doom ALL attempts at creating a decent life for the unprecedented billions of us no matter what other policies we institute.Basically, I am praising the author's example of how to approach the subject. A good and crucial example.
