No, just no. When I downloaded this series to my kindle before leaving on a long European adventure, I was reminded of the old saying “if everyone else was jumping off a bridge, would you?” I like sex. And god help me, I liked Twilight. Mostly I loved Wuthering Heights, the book that inspired Twilight and then, this. But, Christian Grey is too young and one dimensional to be that twisted. Even to be a billionaire—it would help if she actually interviewed one. Anastasia is a simpleton, through and through. One thing the book gets right—these two really belong together. I tried to turn off my intellectual understanding and proceeded to take it at just porn-level—but even the love scenes failed to titillate. I only weep for all the trees that were destroyed due to this book.

8.12% into the book: It's not hard to see Christian Grey is a geeky sort of guy, brilliant, business savvy, young billionaire, stunningly handsome, social, with ever so dark a side but Ana unravels him. He's had 15 women in his high-end S&M leather room but he's not woman savvy, he couldn't detect Ana was a virgin telling me women use and have used him, he's rich, so gold diggers would gather, those who think sex is the key give his brand of kink a try though I think money is still the moral of that story telling me more in that he is an innocent not the worldly womanizer. Enter Ana, a bone-head giving naive a whole new meaning. After incredible sex, passion beyond passion, intimacy like nobody's business, she can't talk to him without being self conscious? Each encounter is new? Seriously? interestingly enough it's evident intimacy doesn't live here, it's not personal it's business though Ana has him doing things he said he wouldn't like make love, but she's so self conscious with him, embarrassed, uncertain, after the first night that bond that should've been there ain't. There are secrets most likely, but I'd rather Gabriel Oak and Bathsheba's Madding Crowd. I began skimming through sex parts, his erection, her orgasm, kinky things we say in the heat of and made a decision. I'm putting Shades of Grey on the shelf. Maybe some other time or not and we don't need to have Paris. I got to page 151 of 1859: It occurred to me if I skimmed through all the sex parts to pick out the story, I'd probably be done with Book 1 in 30 minutes.It's ok - I have no qualms with leaving it on the shelf.September 15, 2018 – Started ReadingSeptember 15, 2018 – Shelved

I read this 2nd book in the series and watched the movie as well. Truth be told, I thought the movie was done well. The pacing was good, but the thing that struck me the most was that Anastasia had grown stronger dealing with Christian, which was a good thing. She starts out as this young virgin I had a tough time buying but her growth as a human being was great in the second book. I love erotica and while this isn't quite what I generally read, I have to admit I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the book and the movie.

They have a lot of explicit content. This does not bother me, but some may not be comfortable reading some of the scenes.Overall, I think I enjoyed the books. I read them quickly, and read all three, and found them hard to put down. Not sure my inability to put the books down were for the reasons the author would appreciate. Let me explain.First the graphic sex scenes captured my attention in a "passing a car accident" sort of way. There are toys, several apparatus, and an entire room in this series devoted to BDSM. BDSM is not my preferred genre of books or sex, so this was a new world for me, and it had a hold of my attention, much the same way that passing a terrible car accident might. I wanted to see what had happened to cause the accident, completely out of morbid curiosity, all the while I hoped that no one died and that I didn't see blood as I passed.There was a story hidden in all of the gratuitous sex though. The story did not seem like the focal point of of the story, so it seemed mildly lacking, as it appeared the sex scenes had more effort put into them than the rest of the story. The plot/story, if read on its own and skipping the sex scenes, may not have been able to stand on its own, or may be completely empty and boring. I would not suggest that the reader skip the scenes, no matter how gratuitous, as they are an integral part of the story.I gave this series three out of five. I enjoyed it. I learned things that I was not looking to learn. There is whole other lifestyle out there that I have zero experiences in, and these books showed that love can exist even in these lifestyles, despite what so many believe. I could not give this book a four or a five star rating though because the story line was so empty when the sex scenes were removed. The story should have still been good with or without the BDSM, but this one, in my opinion, could not have stood on its own.

Many people I know love these novels and the subsequent movies. Personally, I cannot see why. The writing is incredibly juvenile and weak. Aside from some of the sex scenes, a 5 year old could have written this. There are much better erotic novels out there. The concept was interesting, about a haunted man who finds an outlet through BDSM. But the execution was poor. I found nothing compelling about the lead female. I did not bother reading the 3rd book. I will give almost any book a try, and was hoping that it would get better after the first because a friend really wanted me to read these. But after the 2nd I gave up and gave the books away.

Great read! Even if you (like me) aren’t necessarily trying to make it as a professional songwriter/musician, this book was fun and easy to read with a lot of wisdom to share for creatives in general.

I liked how the stories flowed from one chapter to the next. I'm not a musician but found the techniques and lessons taught to be very applicable to most any creative or business endeavor. Take the time to check out the songs referenced and give them a listen. Really brings the stories to life.

Although I am not a songwriter myself, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Song Journey contains many lessons that are useful for business and life in general, and the stories are wonderful. Two thumbs up!!

Just started a men’s bible study on Romans. Have also lived south of Rome for several years. This is an excellent companion text to our reading, as it brings a lot of context to biblical and historic accounts.

(1) Regarding the author’s assertion that the thief on the cross did not require baptism for salvation, he was not saved under the same law and dispensation (the Gospel) that we are under. He was still under the Law of Moses, which Jesus fulfilled when he died on the cross--Matt 5:17-18, Rom 7:4, Gal 3:13, Heb 10:9-10. Before His death, Jesus forgave people directly as He chose--Mark 2:5-12; Luke 7:48-49; John 8:1-11. Apparently, the thief is such a case. He may also have been baptized previously by John or one of Jesus' disciples. If the thief had been among those who were baptized and then later fell into sin, then he would have been an erring child of God not in need of baptism. Jesus did not forgive any of these people under the terms of the gospel, since the gospel was not yet in effect. The terms of salvation under the gospel were first preached as being in effect after Jesus' resurrection--Mark 16:15-16; Matthew 28:18-20; Luke 24:46-47, Acts 2-38, Eph 2:13-16.(2) Acts 2-38 could not be clearer: in response to Jews' direct question of "What must we do?" (after Peter convinced them that they had crucified Jesus, the Lord and Messiah), his direct response was "Repent and be baptized, everyone of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit”. Clearly, although they obviously believed at this point, they were not saved until they were subsequently baptized. Verse 41 affirms "Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about 3000 were added to their number that day." Also, in Mark 16:15-16, Jesus commands his apostles: "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. He who believes and is baptized shall be saved, but he who does not believe shall be condemned”. In Gal3:27, the apostle Paul teaches: "for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ".(3) The conversion of Saul of Tarsus (later Paul the apostle), recorded in Acts 9:1-18 and 22:3-16, clearly affirms the necessity of baptism as a condition of salvation. When Jesus struck him down blind on the road to Damascus, Saul asked: "Who are you, Lord?" "I am Jesus whom you are persecuting, he replied". ."Now get up and go into the city, and you shall be told what you must do. The men traveling with him led him into Damascus, and he was blind for three days". The messenger (Ananias) came to see him and said, "Saul, receive your sight". At that very moment, Saul received his sight. Ananias then said, "...and now what are you waiting for? Arise and be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on His name." Although Saul already believed at this point, the Lord, through Ananias, commanded that he must still be baptized to have his sins forgiven. Later, Paul (Saul) also describes the significance of baptism in Romans 6:3-4: “...don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may have a new life.”(4) In the book of conversions, the Acts, there is not one instance where one obeyed the gospel without being baptized into Christ! In every case, they believed the gospel, and they were baptized, as commanded by the Lord. Eight specific conversions are included in Acts, as follows: (a)Jews on Pentecost-- Acts 2, (b) Samaritans--Acts 8, (c) Ethiopian Eunuch--Acts 8, (d) Saul of Tarsus--Acts 9, (e) Cornelius--Acts 10, (e) Lydia--Acts16, (f) Philippian jailor--Acts 16, (g) Corinthians--Acts 18, (h) Ephesians--Acts 19.(5) When the author uses phrases such as "most evangelical Christians do not believe that it (baptism) is necessary for salvation" or "while it is not needed for salvation, baptism is still an important act of obedience to Christ" or "most commentators agree that Paul isn't speaking of water baptism", one must wonder what scriptural authority is used to justify these assertions.

Mr. Limbaugh has a way of taking what I've already read in the Bible and explaining in detail the circumstances as well as how verses connect.This sounds simple but sometimes those of us who think we know the Bible from cover-to-cover have problems connecting the dots - the big dots such as salvation through faith and the covenants.I was also surprised at how his explanations of Paul's travels made more sense to me than maps or that I've already been to some of those cities and did not realize the implications.Great book! Don't think twice about buying it and/or buying one for your Bible study class.

David Limbaugh has established himself as an insightful Biblical scholar. His faith and passion are infused in his work.Wonderful book.

This seems like a very good audio, but for the constant bible reference interruption. This was quite annoying. It would be 100 times better if the narrator read right through without ending each verse with a reference. It breaks up the flow. Get the book if you want the references. As a matter of fact I had to stop listening to it after about 8 minutes, it was just too annoying to listen any longer. .

Pauline doctrine well defined! ANY and EVERY non-Jewish persons need to read this book.

This is a must read book. Most people really do not understand how hard it is to keep their money safe. Many of the threats to money are almost invisible, nibbling here and there. But by the magic of compounding, these "tiny" nibbles can cut your money in half over time. e.g., a 2% inflation (what the Fed calls "no inflation") will cut your money in half in 36 years. So if you're 50 and live to be 86, you will live your last year on half the money you have now. Just a tiny 1% increase in the sales tax? Over time, it will impoverish you if your money doesn't grow more than 1%.Loeb travelled the world as part of his investment business. He saw everything-- earthquakes, wars, revolutions, ravening inflations. People fleeing with all they could rescue of their lifetime savings on their backs. This led him to a great insight: There is no way to keep money safe from all the threats to it. The only way to keep your money "safe" is to grow it faster than it is nibbled away. So this book is about how to grow your money.This book was first written a long time ago, but the lessons are still important. These are things most people don't know and most investment books don't cover. In fact, a lot of the standard investment advice-- the kind a "financial advisor" will be swarming you with-- will not grow your money and will not keep it safe from all the tiny, invisible erosions.Please, read this book and think it all thru again. Do you really want to have all your money in a residence and rental property in earthquake and tornado country the way one hard saver I know does? Do you want to have 5 typed pages of load mutual funds to be properly "diversified" the way my sister did when she died? Do you want to keep your money "safe" in bonds now that you're retired the way my doctor is being advised to do? Do you really want to vote for that sales tax increase that's "only" 1% the way my aunt did?

The Battle for Investment Survival is referenced in The Zurich Axioms, an excellent book I read earlier. As such I was curious to read it. This is a second edition of this book that was published in 1957. I don't know when the first edition was written. The author is a 35 years, seasoned, stock broker who lays out his experience and advice in this book. It is broken down to 96 short chapters, followed by (in the second edition) notes and lectures that the author made after writing this book. I liked it for the useful and interesting information, some of it contrary to main stream investment status quo. I felt at times that some of it could be cut a little shorter to convey the same idea. I, personally, had somewhat of a hard time with the language or writing style of the author. It might be the style of writing at the time or just his own style, I don't know which. He is using long run-on sentences that are becoming hard to follow sometimes. Also, the use of terms in ways that are not used in present day, had me stop and re-read and think before I could continue. All on its own it is not a bad thing except for slowing me down. I don't feel that this book taught me anything ground breaking but I'm very pleased for having read it. Some of my favorite quotes:"There is no line of endeavor in the world where real knowledge will pay as rich or as quick a monetary reward as Wall Street.""There are three ways of making money. One is to sell your time. The second is to lend your money. The third is to risk your money."And my favorite of them all:"people who invest money for others have legal and moral responsibilities which often hinder the use of investment practices most likely to succeed."

This is a book that will increase your understanding of the world of money and what you have to do to protect your future. Loeb travelled all over the world and saw *everything*-- war, revolution, economic collapse, earthquakes, inflation, starvation, people losing everything, fleeing for their lives. He also lived a long time and saw many changes in US laws and taxation. His basic point is that money is never safe. Never. You think you can keep it safe in a bank, or under a mattress, or in government bonds, but even when it is not being outright confiscated or stolen, the purchasing power it is supposed to preserve is being constantly chipped away by inflation, taxation, regulation.In his view, the only way to keep money safe is to invest it in a way that will return enough to make up for what is eroded and chipped away. Liquidity matters. Don't have it all in one location-- i.e. don't have a lot in real estate in the same location you have your business in. e.g. California before the real estate bust and economic crash.I happen to believe his investment style is correct: don't invest it all, be very selective about your buys, have only a few A+ ideas, and watch them carefully. When opportunity presents, go after it 100%. Keep losses small.But even if you don't agree with everything Loeb says, this book is full of investment *wisdom*, and it will increase your wisdom enough so you will recognize and avoid the "advisor" who comes at you slinging jargon and investment "facts" hoping to fool you into thinking he knows anything.

I recently downloaded "The Battle for Investment Survival" into Kindle.I had first read this book at an Army post in 1969.I read it and reread it many times to get the major points by G.M Loeb.It opened my eyes to the most common sense, intelligent adviceabout the stock market that has followed me through today.to quote the book:"It is absolutely futile to get results except to buying into anticipatedlarge gains. It is far better to let cash set idle than to invest just tokeep invested or for income. It fact it is really vital ........ one of thewidest differences between the successful professional and theloss taking amateur."I believe this book offers the best investment advice a 72 year oldhas ever read.

The illustrations in this book are drawings of real life flowers, but they also look like other things. The author/illustrator has asked children to imagine the flowers as a parrot in flight, purses with flaps, fluttering bats, etc. They're almost like optical illusions.The text is simple, and the colors in the drawings are vivid. It's almost laid out like a board book. The ARC was incomplete, so I couldn't get the full feel of the book, but I would guess it will appeal to children between ages 2-4.The ARC did not contain much of the promised end notes either, but there were full color photos of the actual flowers, and Stockdale has done a terrific job of reproducing their likenesses in her illustrations. I would have liked to read some of the facts about the plants themselves.Blog: Mom's Radius

Learning to see involves looking closely and learning the language to describe what is right before our eyes. Fantastic Flowers is a perfect introduction for budding gardeners to explore the blooms in the flower beds of the world. Susan Stockdale’s beautiful illustration of the shapes of flowers that look like upside down pants, prim ballerinas, or wild baboons introduces early readers to an imaginative view of nature. A flower is not just a flower but can be compared to the shapes of other known objects. A hybrid Osteospermum spirals out in the shape of spoons, the hybrid Calceolaria represents a purse with a flap. Teaching children to name what they see helps them remember and will spark their curiosity to look more closely at the beauty of the world.Just as the reader reaches the end of the colorful illustrations, Stockdale delivers the scientific and common names of the flowers complete with photographs for the fancifully illustrated flowers in the first section of the book. This is when the beginning reader could benefit from a lap of an experienced gardener. Flowers that look like ballerinas? Baboons? A swaddled baby? Strangely enough it's all true and Susan Stockdale highlights seventeen flowers that look an awful lot like something else. It reminds me a bit of the cloud game, where you try to see things in the clouds, except with flowers. This is a great book to use to introduce children to plants and the amazing variety and the strange characteristics of flowers. In addition, Stockdale also gives a brief overview of pollination. Photographs are included at the end along with the official names, scientific names, and pollinators for each plant. A great book for teaching or just a fun introduction to amazing nature.
