Janice Kay Johnson set Trusting the Sheriff, a Harlequin Intrigue, in an Amish settlement in Northern Missouri. Abby Baker has been a Kansas City detective, but when she is wounded in a shooting, she goes to stay with her aunt and uncle, far away from the dangers of KC. But even though she meets Sheriff Caleb Tanner who keeps an eye on her as a favor to her supervisor, Sgt Michael Donahue, who is his old friend, she is still not safe from sniper fire. It soon becomes clear to Caleb and Abby that she is not safe on the farm, especially after her aunt is wounded. This is one more of Johnson's suspense books that is high on thrills with a nice love story in the background.
This is the 2nd Harlequin Intrigue story that Janice Kay Johnson has written, since the SuperRomance line was discontinued. This is a stand-alone story, not connected to any of her other stories. As always, she has engaging characters with realistic dialogue, a well-paced plot, and a happy ending. This story is heavy on suspense with only a little romance, definitely less romance than the SuperRomance line. I couldn't put it down, and highly recommend it.
